Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 45 design
The limited-run VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45 will go on sale in the UK in April 2021 and is priced under £40,000, bookings for the same has already started. It will still be positioned under fully blown Golf R which gets a more powerful 315HP engine and an all-wheel-drive system. In terms of visual design, the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 features bespoke ’45’ branding both on the interior and exterior with a contrasting black roof and a rear spoiler which is a homage to the original Mk1 GTI’s rear black coloured spoiler as said by Volkswagen.
Other exterior styling elements include large 19-inch black coloured alloy wheels with a red pinstripe in the rims that give tribute to older GTI models which had the design theme in their grilles.
On the interior, it gets the same design theme with GTI stitched nicely into the sporty seats and 45 embossed at bottom of the steering wheel. Other features like dashboard layout with large digital driver display, touch screen infotainment and sports padels are carried over like the standard GTI model.
Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 45 Powertrain
This being a special Clubsport edition and having a limited run is powered by a more powerful 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that is tuned to produce 300HP and 400Nm of torque which on the standard Golf GTI makes 245hp and 370Nm. Power is sent only to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission. A claimed 0-100 kph sprint takes 5.6 secs.
Also offered with an exclusive Race package that the standard Golf GTI misses out on. The package includes a full Akrapovic sports exhaust system and no speed limiter for a top speed exceeding 250kph just like the Golf R. Other equipment like top-spec LED matrix headlights with red detailing is also on offer.
Volkswagen Golf for India
For now Volkswagen has no plan yet to bring in the Golf hot hatch to India, but the German carmaker has a much bigger plan under the India 2.0 plan in 2021 by launching several cars. One of the most important launches is the VW Taigun midsize SUV which is based on India specific MQB A0 IN platform. They are also testing a new Sedan called the Virtus that will replace the VW Vento. They have also started the sales of VW T-Roc as a CBU unit. Also, they are planning to re-launch the standard 5-seater version of the VW Tiguan SUV by 2021.
