Tata Punch Micro SUV dimensions and platform

The Punch micro SUV measures 3,827mm in length, 1,742mm in width, 1,615mm in height, and wheelbase is 2,445mm. In terms of length is a short car but is a bit wider than the Tata Nexon. It has a ground clearance of 187mm and the boot capacity 366L. The Punch is based on Tata’s ALFA architecture which was first used in the Altroz and just like the Altroz the Punch gets 90-degree opening doors and a flat floor on the inside which will surely increase its interior space and coming and going out of the car will be very easy.

When compared to its main rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV 100, which started the micro SUVish segment, the Tata Punch in terms of dimensions is the longest and widest has the longest wheelbase and even have the highest ground clearance. Having a much higher grille, upright stance and body cladding all around, it has the most SUV look compared to the rivals.

Due to a SUV like higher ground clearance, the Punch has best in class breakover, approach and departure angles and a water wading capacity of 370mm. It has an approach angle of 20.3 degrees, departure angle of 37.6 degrees, a rampover angle of 22.2 degrees. These number will surely help it go over bad patches of road.

Tata Punch engine and gearbox details

Power comes from a 1.2L, 3-Cyl naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 86HP and 113Nm of torque. This engine already does duty on other Tata cars like Tiago, Altroz  and the Tigor. It will come mated with 5-speed manual transmission as standard or AMT gearbox which will be offered on the mid-spec Adventure and top-spec Creative trims. However, this engine on the Micro SUV gets added tech like automatic engine start/stop function to offer better fuel efficiency.

Tata also offeres traction modes with the AMT version of the Punch just like larger SUVs such as Harrier and Safari. Tata motors claims Punch will do 0-60kph in 6.5 seconds and 0-100kph in 16.5 seconds. Wait for our detailed video review.

Customization Packs for Tata Punch

The Tata also offers customization packs for the Punch. The Pure and Adventure will be offered with a Rhythm pack, while the Accomplished and Creative are offered with Dazzle and IRA pack, respectively.

The Rhythm pack for the Pure trim features an audio system with four speakers and steering mounted controls, and in the Adventure trim it upgrades standard audio system with a 7.0-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay just like the units offered on other Tata cars.

The Dazzle pack on the Accomplished trim offers projector headlights, LED DRLs, 16-inch diamond cut alloys and a black coloured A-pillar. The IRA pack for on the top-spec Creative trim features Tata’s iRA connected car tech as the name suggests.

Tata Punch Pricing and Rivals

The Punch is the smallest SUV offering from Tata Motors range of SUVs and Tata is expected to price it very aggressively and is to range between Rs 5.50 lakh and Rs 9 lakh, ex-showroom, India. Its main rivals will be hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 but apart from that it will also rival some compact SUVs like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger due to competitive pricing. For whole pricing details we have to wait till 18 October till it is launched.
