The Tata Punch Micro SUV has been finally launched today and prices starts at Rs 5.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.09 lakh(ex-showroom) for the top-spec Creative AMT trim. These prices are of course introductory and valid till December 31, 2021. The Punch micro-SUV is based on Tata’s ALFA architecture like we mention previously and is offered in two engine and gearbox combinations. Tata offers the Punch is in four trims– Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative.

Introductory, Ex-showoom



Tata Punch Features


Talking about features, the Punch from the front surely looks like a baby version of the larger Tata SUVs like the Harrier or the Safari, and as mentioned earlier Tata Punch will be offered in four trims. The base Pure trim come equipped with pretty nice features like dual airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, front power windows, central locking and even engine start/stop technology.


The Adventure trim of the Punch gets added with more features like an audio system with 4 speakers and steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs , all four power windows, follow me home multi-reflector halogen headlights, USB charging socket and full wheel covers.


The Punch Accomplished trim come with more added features like a 7.0-inch floating type touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, reverse parking camera, fog lights, keyless go, cruise control and 15-inch differently styled steel wheels.


While the top-spec Creative trim of the Punch comes loaded with features like 7.0-inch analog-digital instrument cluster, LED DRLs, auto projector headlights , auto AC, auto rain-sensing wipers, rear washer wiper, puddle lamps and larger 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.


The Tata Punch if offered in total of 7 exterior colours that includes both single tone and dual tone colour options– Tornedo Blue, Atomic Orange, Tropical Mist, Daytona Grey, Orcus White, Calypso Red and Meteor Bronze. 


Engine and gearbox details


Under the hood is 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the Tata Punch and its the only engine option. The engine makes 86HP and 113Nm of torque and gets the option for both 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic transmission. Tata claims that the Punch can do a 0-60Kph run in 6.5 seconds and 0-100 kph in 16.5 seconds.

The engine is the same unit that does job on other Tata cars like the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz and it is a fairly nice motor, however, in the Punch it gets additional features automatic engine start/stop function for more fuel efficiency. The ARAI claimed fuel economy of 18.97kmpl for the manual variant and 18.82kmpl for the AMT automatic variant. Tata also gives option for traction modes with the AMT gearbox on the Punch just like larger Tata SUVs. 


Tata Punch Customisation Options


Tata offers customisation packs with the variants of the Punch. The Rhythm pack is offered with the base Pure and Adventure trims while Dazzle and IRA pack are offered with the higher trims, Accomplished and Creative respectively.


The Rhythm pack can be had for an additional amount of Rs 35,000 and it offers features like an audio system with four speakers and steering mounted controls for the Pure trim, while on the Adventure the standard audio system is upgraded to the 7.0-inch Harman touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.


The Dazzle pack can be had with additional Rs 45,000 and it offers LED DRLs, projector headlights, 16-inch diamond cut alloys and a black finished A-pillar in the Accomplished trim. The IRA pack can be had for an amount of Rs 30,000 and as the name suggest it adds Tata’s iRA connected car tech to the fully loaded Creative trim.



Tata Punch Rivals


While the Tata Punch primarily rivals with hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 however with the competitive pricing it the higher spec variants will also go up against some compact SUVs like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
