Production-spec Skoda Kushaq Exterior design

The Skoda Kushaq is based on India specific VW’s MQB AO IN platform and the name ‘Kushaq’ was derived from a Sanskrit word ‘Kushak’ which simply means ‘King’. So lets see if it stands for it name. While talking about the exterior design, the production-spec Skoda Kushaq is kept similar to the Vision IN concept. Coming to the front, it features Skoda’s signature wide Skoda flanked by all-LED headlight set-up and the foglights which are placed just below the headlight units. While the front bumper gets lots of cuts and creases that gives it a sporty look and overall goes well with the car.

Coming to the side profile, the Skoda Kushaq features bold lines running across the doors along with body cladding on the lower parts of the doors and around the wheel wells which gives it the much-needed SUV look. Top-spec variants of the Skoda Kushaq SUV also gets roof rails and 17-inch dual-tone that enhances the sporty look of the SUV.

Coming to the rear, the Skoda Kushaq SUV gets a roof spoiler, a chrome strip running across the tailgate and finished off with a faux diffuser that gets silver finish treatment. The rear is also complimented with wraparound LED taillights that give it a much wider look. Overall, from the exterior, the Skoda Kushaq SUV looks handsome and has a silhouette similar to larger Skoda SUVs like the Kodiaq and the Karoq.

In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Kushaq SUV measures 4,225mm long, 1,760mm wide, and has a height of 1,612mm. It has a decent ground clearance of 188mm and a wheelbase measures 2,651mm long. The boot capacity is 385 litres which can be expanded up to 1,405 litres with rear seats folded down. The interior of the Skoda Kushaq features premium styling, it gets a layered dashboard design with a thin chrome bar running across it that separates the top and bottom part and finally connects the chrome-lined AC vents at each end. There is also knurled type plastic insert on the top part of the dashboard. There is a floating type 10-inch touchscreen that takes the centre stage and gets features like connected car technology, smartphone connectivity, Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay. Placed below the infotainment screen are the central AC vents under which are the feather-type touch HVAC controls. While the touch panel for the climate control looks great to the eyes but they will not be nice to use like physical buttons while driving.

Just like newer Skoda models, the steering wheel on the Skoda Kushaq features a two-spoke design and it looks similar to the new Skoda Superb and upcoming Octavia sedans. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and gives a premium feel, furthermore, it features knurled scroll wheels and buttons for various controls like audio, phone, voice commands and cruise control. However, the Kushaq comes with a traditional analogue instrument cluster with a MID unit as standard. The top-spec variants may feature a fully digital instrument cluster.

Being an SUV the Skoda Kushaq offers a commanding view from the front seats. The seats are well padded for comfort and support and are ventilated too. The rear seats also offer good comfort and under-thigh support and sufficient legroom even for taller passengers. However, the headroom may be a bit tighter for tall people.

Other cabin features include armrests for both front and rear passengers along with two cup holders and ample storage space. Some more features like ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a cooled glovebox, six speakers audio system along with a 50w subwoofer, sunroof, internal memory storage, Type-C USB ports, my Skoda connect app are also there. However, cost-cutting has been done in some places like the lower parts of the dashboard are made up of scratchy plastic and even the headliner material is a woven one and not knitted fabric.
