With the introduction of Boat Tail Rolls Royce has revived back its Coachbuilding Operations. This allows Patrons to get them to design a completely new Rolls Royce with bespoke body styles but within the company’s design theme and limitations. This type of modern coachbuilding was first seen when the one-off Rolls Royce Sweptail was revealed back in 2017 as is considered to be one of the most Luxury and expensive GT car ever built.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail Design Details

The whole design inspiration for the newly revealed Rolls Royce Boat Tail is derived from Luxury yachts and the original 1932 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail that gives it a nautical theme. The new Boat Tail showcased here is among the first of all the three and is built for a couple that owns an original 1932 Boat Tail in their private collection of cars. Their main goal was to create a joyful and celebratory car they could enjoy with the family when the project was commissioned to Rolls Royce three year back from now.

Now talking about the new Rolls Royce Boat Tail, the first thing that anybody can notice is how massive it is in terms of dimensions, it measures nearly 5.9 metres in length. Then comes the signature Rolls-Royce’s pantheon handcrafted grille that is flanked on both side by pair of wide DRLs below which are round projector-type headlamps that were seen on previous year phantoms. All these elements are crafted to give a seamless modern design still having the classic Rolls-Royce front that they are known for.

The nautical theme is visible when the Boat Tail is looked at from the sides. It gets a wraparound type windscreen which is mostly seen on luxury boats, then comes is the sloping waistline with a seamlessly incorporated wooden deck at the rear and a unique fixed-canopy roof that gives it the buttresses style.

The rear is where all the party begins in the Boat Tail. The rear end features a set of horizontally mounted taillights that are positioned low so that it gives the visual of a dipped stern of a boat. There is also use of carbon fibre elements throughout the lower section of the car. It can be seen on the side skirts and sill and front and rear bumpers of the car. Its doesn’t ends there as this particular Boat Tail’s tail section is finished in finest wooden veneer that opens up like butterfly doors and reveals finest diners cutlery and champaign glasses exist out there.

The Rolls Royce Boat Tail showcased here is finished in a two-tone colour combination that the client wanted-a bright blue and a deep dark blue shade that comes with both metallic and crystal flakes. The dual-tone colour is also carried over to the interior of the car and the wheels which are wrapped in white-wall tyres.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail Bespoke treatments

The Boat Tail was created by Coachbuilding Operations to keep it bespoke and it gets various design elements and features that Rolls Royce and their clients have worked together to bring it to life. The first element that comes to notice is the fixed-canopy rooftop (its removable) that gives the car a sculpted look, so as the sweeping roofline along with the unique structural elements extend out to the deck that gives it the look of the flying buttresses.

Like previously mentioned, the wooden rear tail section or it will be better to call it the deck is where most of the details has gone and it’s finished in the finest caleidolegno veneer available which gives it a darker shade. The wooden deck also gets brushed stainless steel pinstripe inlays that help it to get an elongated appearance. The deck get butterfly-style doors that are hinged in the centre line and open up to a precise 67 degree. Once opened, you can see the luxurious contents like fine cutlery and silverware which are made by Christofle of Paris for the car, then there are the towels, and more. Upon opening the deck lids the elements come up at a 15-degree angle and is presented to the owners. Rolls Royce has also incorporated two picnic table that folds out and there are two carbon fibre stools for sitting as well as two refrigerators. One fridge has been specifically designed to store the owner’s favourite champagne bottles and glasses and has the ability to rapidly cool the bottles to 6 degree Celsius which is the perfect serving temperature. There is also a parasol (large umbrella) under the centre line of the decklid for having some shade while the owners are enjoying some luxury picnic.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail interior details

The Boat Tail interior layout is quite similar to other Rolls Royce models out there however there are lots of bespoke elements in the interior too to keep the Boat Tail unique. The exterior colour scheme on this Boat Tail is seen of the interior, while the front seats get the dark blue exterior colour, the rear seats are finished in the light blue shade. There are lots of contrasting piping and stitching works. There are handcrafted analogue dials for the metre console which are finished off with a decorative technique called Guilloché that is most commonly used by jewellers and watchmakers. The dashboard also gets custom made timepieces by BOVET 1822 which are designed in such a way that they can be removed and worn as wristwatches by clients when they want to. As the clients are even fond of luxury pens, this particular Boat Tails also houses a custom made Montblanc pen in the glovebox which is placed in a handcrafted aluminium and leather case. It’s all about bespoke and luxury elements, no doubt this particular Boat Tail is expected to cost around £20 million pounds or $2.83 Million USD.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail Powertrain and Chassis

Rolls Royce has not officially declared about the chassis and powertrain details but it’s very likely that all the three Boat Tail cars including this one is made over a Phantom chassis. Under the hood, the Boat Tail is most probably powered by the same RR 6.75L twin-turbo V12 petrol engine that moves the Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan. The power output of this engine range from 555-571HP and the torque range whooping 850-900Nm. The 8-speed automatic gearbox might also be carried over.

Rolls Royce India operation

It’s highly unlikely that a Boat Tail will ever come to India but with the introduction of Coachbuilding Operations by Rolls Royce we might get a chance someday to see a highly bespoke Rolls Royce in India too as there are many potential Rolls Royce Patrons. As per India operations, Rolls-Royce already sells the new Phantom that was launched in 2018, also its first SUV, the Cullinan. In 2020 they have also launched the new Ghost and with that, they even sell the two-door Wraith coupe and Dawn convertibles.
