Hyundai India has opened bookings for Rs 25,000. Hyundai has also shared some information of the new Verna’s powertrain options and variants along with release of teasers and booking details

  1. Launch and price announcement by March 21
  2. Will be only available with two petrol engines
  3. Four variants will be available

New-gen Hyundai Verna teaser details

The new Hyundai Verna as in the teaser can be seen having a completely new design language and, from the teasers it can be seen that the styling is influenced from new-gen flagship Hyundai cars.

The new Hyundai Verna sedan gets a new front fascia with double layer headlight set-up like seen on the new flagship Hyundai Grandeur sedan sold overseas. The grille design is new and like seen on other current Hyundai cars and it takes up most part of the nose and front bumper. The grille has multiple cuts and creases like seen on the Tucson SUV and the latest Elantra sedan, sold in other countries. The new Hyundai Verna also gets horizontal light bar as LED daytime running lamp, a design that has been carrired from cars like Hyundai Grandeur Sedan and Staria MPV.

Now moving to the side profile, the new Verna gets even more cuts and creases than the previous gen car and has much sportier notchback coupe like design than a conventional sedan. More cuts and creases on all the fenders and doors are expected, which is signature to Hyundai cars.

The most sporty looking part of the new Verna is the back profile. A new LED taillight design makes the rear profile very promising. The taillight now has a LED light bar and have crystal like inserts just seen on the new Hyundai Venue that was launched last year in India. Other than that no other informations have been revealed as of now.

New-gen Hyundai Verna powertrain options, variants and colours

Hyundai India also revealed about the powertrain details for the new Verna sedan – there will be two 1.5-litre petrol engines. There will be an all-new 1.5-litre 4-cyl direct injection turbo-petrol, which will make around 160Hp and will come mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT. This engine will eventually power most Hyundai-Kia models in India like the Creta, Seltos, and Carens MPV and replace the current 1.4-litre TGDi petrol engine.

Another option is the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cyl petrol engine that makes around 115HP and come mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an IVT which is essentially a CVT automatic. This engine is the same engine that does duty on other Hyundai-Kia cars.

Sadly there will be no diesel engine option on the new-gen Hyundai Verna, for now and this conforms that the mid-sized sedan segment will now be petrol-only segment with no diesel engine. This is the result of more stricter emission norms and as such Hyundai has also confirmed both the engines on the new Verna will be RDE and E20 fuel compliant. Expect the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to be available on the top-spec trims, while entry level trims will be powered by the1.5-litre NA engine.

Like wise new-Verna will be sold in four variants – EX, S, SX and SX(O) trims.

When it comes to colour options, Hyundai will offer the new Verna in seven single tone and two dual-tone paint options. There are also three new paint options – Abyss Black, Atlas White, Tellurian Brown.

Pricing and launch details

Hyundai has already opened the bookings for the new-gen Verna and with that its is expected that Hyundai will reveal more details about the sedan in the coming days with launch and price announcement by 21st March of this year. The production to be started by coming months and unlike its predecessor the new sedan will be a much better car to compete its rivals like the Honda City 5th gen , VW Virtus, the Skoda Slavia and the very aged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Talking about the price, the new-age Hyundai Verna will be much more costlier than before because of more safety features and the new 1.6L turbo-petrol engine.
