Ford has also unveiled the Bronco Sport, with all new retro-looking cross over under the Ford Bronco sub-brand. Should not be confused with the new flagship off-roader known as the Bronco, the Bronco Sport is essentially a road-focused SUV for customers who want the same rugged looks but with a relaxed everyday driving manner.
New Ford Bronco Sport: Overview
Ford Bronco Sport is the baby brother of the flagship 4X4 Bronco. Its more road-focused but also retains the cool retro looks and all the trim levels are equipped with 4WD as standard. It will be sold only with 5-door body style, unlike the flagship Bronco which has a body-on-frame chassis, this makes the Bronco Sport a crossover also it shares its underpinnings with Ford Kuga or Escape SUV which are sold globally.
The Ford Bronco Sport measures 4,386mm in length, 2,087mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,667mm. These dimensions are slightly more than the Jeep Compass SUV that is also sold in India. Top trim levels of the Bronco Sport offer 224mm of ground clearance along with a 30.4-degree approach angle, a 33.1-degree departure angle and a 20.4-degree break-over angle, with a water fording ability of 23.6 inches.

The Bronco Sport is available only in a five-door hard-top body style. It is Equipped with Bronco family design cues like the headlights, body cladding and practical openable rear glass that was also seen on the original Bronco SUV. Its has shorter overhangs, which helps it clear off-road obstacles. The Bronco Sport features fender vents and stepped roof design, or ‘Safari style roof’ as Ford calls it, which allows more headroom for the second row and taller boot space. The rear can be seen with a set of vertical taillamps with prominent Bronco badging.

New Ford Bronco Sport: Interior
The interior of Bronco is a straightforward design than the full-size Bronco, with easy-to-reach controls, and things familiar to other Ford crossovers. The Bronco Sport comes with an 8-inch infotainment screen, powered by the Ford SYNC3 infotainment system, wireless charging pad, and a B&O Sound system.

The Bronco Sport will also come with a slide-out table that can be used as a makeshift workbench, rubberized floor for easy cleaning, 400-watt inverter, and under-seat storage in the rear bench.
New Ford Bronco Sport: Engines
The Bronco Sport comes with two EcoBoost turbocharged engine options- Starting with 1.5 litres 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 181HP and 257.6NM- Standard on Base, Big Bands and Outer Banks. The Badlands and First Edition variants come with a 2.0 litre EcoBoost motor producing 245hp and 373NM of torque. Both engines come with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox with 4X4 standard on all trim levels, and higher variants also get paddle shifters.

On all the trim levels Bronco Sport comes with off-road suspension setup, along with a terrain management system that features up to seven Go Over Any Terrain (GOAT) driving modes including Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery and Sand.
The Bronco Sport is also equipped with a Trail Control system that works like cruise control for off-roading and automatically handles acceleration and braking at speeds of up to 32kph forward or 10kph in reverse when activated. The Bronco Sport can also be equipped 180 degree ‘off-road camera’ that displays split live video feed on the infotainment system, so you can see obstacles without any spotter.
Safety on the Bronco Sport includes pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, a rear-view camera and automatic high-beam LED headlights. You can also opt to add adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering, evasive steering assist, and voice-activated touchscreen navigation.
New Ford Bronco Sport: Variants and price
Bronco Sport variant is offered in 5 trim levels with Base variant starting at roughly $28,155 which is equivalent to RS 21,05,332.73 INR that is almost Rs1.80 lakh cheaper than the base variant of flagship Bronco. The top Trim level know as the Bronco Sport First Edition goes up to $39,995 (Rs29,94,767.61 INR).

With all the types of equipment being offered in the Bronco Sport, it looks promising off-roader but its too early to say whether or not the baby Bronco can replicate the capabilities of the Compass and Jeep Renegade. With Jeep Compass TrailHawk that is offered in India, Ford Bronco Sport looks like a direct rival but there is no plan to launch it in India as of now.
