Hyundai To bring ‘N’ & N-Line performance Brand in India

Hyundai all set to bring the performance ‘N’ and N-Line brand in India starting with i20 N Line by mid-2021.

 

Hyundai N and N-Line performance-oriented brand will be officially launched in India and with that Hyundai is going to bring the N-Line lineup of cars to sell in India. Hyundai N-Line brand is similar to other carmakers’ perormance sub-brands like Skoda’s RS, Volkswagen’s GTI and Ford’s RS. With the N-Line brand, Hyundai Celebrates their World Rally Championship success and with that wants to makes more performance-oriented cars driver-focused cars that are accessible for more people. The Hyundai i20 N-Line will be the first car that will be launched in India.

Overview of Hyundai N brand

 

The N in the N sub-brand is named after Hyundai’s Namyang R&D centre and Hyundai’s European Technical Centre at the famous Nürburgring race track located in Germany. Albert Biermann is the man who heads The Hyundai N sub-brand who was earlier in charge of BMW’s high-performance M division.

 

Even though the sub-brand is fairly new but it is able to get lots of success in RallyCross and even as passenger cars. The N-badged cars have seen a pretty well response in some European markets like Germany and the UK. India being one of the most biggest markets for Hyundai and also a growing market for cars so they are planning to bring in the N-Line sub-brand in India.

 

Now talking about the N-Line Cars, these are the ones that are equipped with more powerful engines, gets suspension mods, gets sporty exterior and interior styling along with added equipment and features.

 

The higher-spec ‘N’ cars gets all the best they can get like the most powerful engines, a stiffened chassis for track-performance, race-spec suspension setup, improved steering geometry and better brakes. The N cars are the best Hyundai can give and is all because of their years of WRC experience. With that Hyundai is able to make lighter, faster, and more safer cars even for road use. Hyundai is also going to bring in higher performance N Cars in India later as CBU units.

 

What will N performance brand bring to India?

 

For India the first car Hyundai will debut under the N-Line band will be the i20 N Line which will be unveiled by mid-2021. The India-bound Hyundai i20 N Line car will be equipped with a 1.0 turbo-petrol engine making 120 Hp and 172 NM of Torque like it is offered in other markets. Along with that, there will be other equipment like a sportier exhaust, tuned suspension for better handling and agility. It will also get other cosmetic upgrades on the exterior and interior to make it look more sporty and stand apart from the standard i20 Turbo variant. These added features will not coast a huge to the buyers pocket and expect the i20 N Line to be priced around Rs 12 lakh.

 

Hyundai is also planning to bring in higher-spec i20 N that runs on a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine making 204 Hp under the 2,500-car homologation free route as full CBU unit. This will be the first Hyundai hot hatch in India and expect prices to range from Rs 25 to 30 lakh. Internationally it competes with the VW Polo GTI. If Hyundai gets good response for the imported N car then they may go for localising the production of the N cars in future, only time will say what will happen. There is also plan to launch N-Line versions of other cars like the Nios and sedans like new  Elantra by next year.
