Hyundai i20 N Line Revealed, bookings open, launch soon

Hyundai has finally revealed the much anticipated i20 N Line in India and with it marks the debut of the N performance brand in India and the i20 N Line being the first model to hit the market.

 

 

 

The Hyundai i20 N Line is sort of a hot hatch that gets sportier cosmetic elements both on the exterior and interior along with reworked steering, sporty exhaust note and suspension setup. Hyundai also started the bookings for the same and customers can book the car online or at Hyundai dealerships across the country for a sum Rs 25,000. Launch is expected to happen by September with the announcement of price.

 

While the i20 N Line marks the debut of Hyundai’s N performance brand in India, you must know that the N Line models are mostly about cosmetic changes and sportier setup and should not be confused with full-blown Hyundai N cars which are much more powerful and performance-focused.

 

  • India-spec Hyundai i20 N Line revealed and is powered by 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine making 120HP and 172 NM of torque

 

  • Transmission options includes 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT gearbox and no proper manual

 

  • Will be available in two trims levels N6 and N8 and sit above the standard i20

 

Hyundai i20 N Line exterior design 

 

The N Line models are distinguished from the standard cars with a much sportier exterior design and as such the India-spec Hyundai i20 N Line front gets a sporty dual-tone bumper with new fog lights housing , a new mesh grille with a prominent chequered flag design, front splitter in contrasting red colour and N Line logo that makes it stand apart from the standard car. Then there comes the larger 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with N branding and front red brake calipers that sets the i20 N Line apart from the standard car. There are also side skirting with red inserts. Coming to the rear, it can bee seen that the i20 N Line gets a sportier bumper with a prominent diffuser and twin-exhaust tips, along with a tail gate mounted spoiler with side wings and dark chrome accents connecting the two LED taillight units it give the i20 N Line a sporty visual appeal. 

 

In terms of exterior colour options, the i20 N Line is available in four monotone colours – Thunder blue which is a new shade new and exclusive, Fiery red, Titan grey and Polar white. Hyundai also offers two more dual-tone colour options – a Thunder blue with contrasting black roof and Fiery red with black roof.

 

Hyundai i20 N Line Interior

 

Coming to the interior now, the dashboard layout is identical to the standard i20. However, the all-black interior on the i20 N Line now gets sporty touch with red accents and red ambient lighting. There are also the chequered flag design and N logo on the front seats which come is leatherette material, also it comes with sporty metal pedals, a bespoke leather wrapped three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and N-branded leather wrapped gear knobs for both the iMT and the DCT cars.

 

Coming to the interior features, the i20 N Line carries all the top notch equipments from the regular i20 hatchback. Comes equipped with a 10.25″ touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and also gets Hyundai’s updated BlueLink connectivity feature which now gets new voice recognition function and 16 free OTA map updates, more over there is a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, cruise control, automatic climate control, a sunroof and 7-speaker Bose sound system to name a few. There are also rear AC vents.

 

Safety features include 6 airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rear parking camera, automatic headlights, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSC), hill assist control (HAC), child seat ISOFIX mounts to name a few. 

 

Powertrain and mechanical details

 

In terms of engine, the India-spec i20 N Line is offered with only a single engine option, a 1.0L3-cyl, turbo-petrol engine making 120HP and 172 Nm of torque. There are two transmission options a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT gearbox and no proper manual on offer. The DCT transmissions also gets steering mounted paddle shifters for more sporty driving experience. However, it would have been a much great car if a proper manual gearbox was offered with the turbo-petrol engine.

 

Even though the engine outputs and the transmission are similar to the one with the top-spec standard i20, the i20 N Line gets a sportier exhaust for a deep exhaust note. The suspension setup has also been tweaked for a much planted ride and is meant to offer better handling around corners. To make is a much engaging car the steering has also been retuned and also gets four wheel disc brakes for better stopping power. 

 

Expected Price, launch date and Rivals

 

The launch of the Hyundai i20 N Line is expected in the first and will be the top-spec model of the i20 range in India. Currently, the top-spec i20 Asta(O) turbo-DCT is sold at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and we expect Hyundai will price the N Line Rs 1-1.5 lakh more. In terms of performance the i20 N Line rivals up against the VW Polo TSI but in terms of pricing it has no direct competition in India.
