Hyundai Ionic 5 will be a India assembled product and cheaper than Kia EV6
Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV has been revealed in India before its launch at the upcoming Auto Expo in January 2023. Hyundai has also opened the bookings from December 21 for Rs 1 lakh.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivetrain details
While Hyundai hasn’t revealed any drivetrain details of the Ioniq 5, it is expected to get a 72.6kWh battery with a ARAI-certified range of 631km on a single charge. The Ioniq 5 is for India will be offered with a rear-wheel-drive configuration, and the output of electric motor is rated at 217HP and 350Nm of torque. The Ioniq 5 also support DC fast charging of 800V, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% under 20minutes.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 design
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was first showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show as the 45 EV concept, and as such the production model carries the retro-futuristic design with Pixel lights Hyundai EVs are known as. It also won the 2022 World Car of the Year award, World Design of the Year and World Electric Car of the Year awards.
In terms of design, the Ioniq 5 is sports retro design with sharp lines, flat surfaces and an SUV stance. The front and rear lights gets pixelated design, and runs on aerodynamic 20-inch wheels with a turbine-like design. Hyundai will offer the Ioniq 5 in three colours – Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White and Midnight Black Pearl.
Interior design and features
The interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a minimal design with a flat floor, flexible seats and a fully movable centre console. Hyundai has also used sustainable fabric materials made from recycled plastic and eco-friendly leather for the upholstery. Hyundai also used bio-paint for interior parts like the crash pads, switches, steering wheels and door pads.
Interior features of the Ioniq 5 includes a pair of large 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment screen, a head-up display with augmented reality, and ADAS as safety features along with other safety features. It is also offered with vehicle-to-load function with an output of 3.6kW that can power even electrical appliances like laptops, phones and other devices. This feature can be used via two ports – one which is located under the rear seats and another near the charging port which is located on the outside.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 pricing
To keep the pricing low, the Ioniq 5 EV crossover will be assembled in India, unlike its cousin the Kia EV6 which is a full Import for India. It will also be slightly more affordable with price expected under Rs 50 Lakh when compared to Kia’s Rs 59.96 Lakh pricing. The huge price difference is as a result of customs duty for a completely built unit (CBU) and a completely knocked down (CKD) car in India.
