Ferrari 812 Competizione and Competizione A Design and Aero

Ferrari showcased the 812 Superfast Limited edition last month by confirming about it powertrain and design and today they have fully revealed the supercar and is called the Ferrari 812 Competizione and also revealed a convertible version of the same, the Competizione A. In terms of design, both the 812 Competizione and Competizione A have a similar front design, there is the aggressive front bumper with air intakes and a splitter, the carbon blade running across the bonnet. While the rear of the Competizione coupe gets a totally different design approach, the rear window has been replaced with an aluminium panel with vortex generators just like an F1 car that helps it at a higher speed. This also gives it a new silhouette with a fastback-styled look from old Ferrari models.

While the Competizione A gets a different approach for the rear as it incorporates the roof back into the storage space. Ferrari gives it the typical flying buttresses type styling style, while the integrated spoiler is there for added downforce. Ferrari also said that there will be a Targa roof made of complete carbon fiber which can be placed in the storage space. On both the supercars, the integrated spoilers look fairly subtle but they are more aggressive when compared to the original cars they are based on.

Apart from that, both the supercars get a massive rear diffuser and vents to cool the brakes. The exhausts have also been repositioned and the tips are rectangular in shape and placed at each end of the diffuser element. Ferrari says that this has been derived from their F1 cars for the 2010s and with this kind of placement the exhaust gases along with the giant diffuser help in aerodynamics and provide downforce which is needed for an 830Hp rear-wheel-drive supercar.

Interior Details

The interior of both the 812 Competizione and Competizione A features a similar layout and like any other modern Ferrari interiors, both the Supercars get loads of leather and Alcantara everywhere from dashboard, steering wheel, and seats. But there are new elements on the interior and just like the new Ferrari Roma both the Competizione Coupe and Convertible feature the gear selector in the center console which can be seen on the Roma. However, there are no center placed screens and everything else is similar to the 812 Superfast and that means you can see the jets engines afterburner like AC vents and a TFT display at the passenger side dashboard which shows the cars vitals like revs and speed in case you want to scare you co-passenger to death. You can also see lots of carbon fiber trims on the dashboard and door panels.

Ferrari 812 Competizione and Competizione A : Engine deatils

Under the hood at front of both the 812 Competizione and Competizione A is a highly revised 6.5-litre, 65-degree naturally aspirated V12 engine which made its debut in 2002 with the Ferrari Enzo. This has been tuned to make a peak power of 830HP and 692Nm of torque and can rev insanely up to 9,500Rpm. The power is up by 30Hp more than the 812 Superfast. This makes it the most powerful and highest revving road-legal V12 Ferrari engine ever made. All this power and high redline are achieved due to updates made in the valve mechanism, new pistons, and new titanium connecting rods, also the internals gets diamond like coating “DLC” which helps in reducing friction. Some other changes include an updated crankshaft and new intake that helps the engine breathe much better making it efficient. The engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and it the same unit from 812 Superfast however it has been recalibrated for 5 percent faster shifts.

Chassis and Performance Details

While some more performance upgrades include a new lightweight exhaust system that helps the engine to breathe and it sounds much better than the one of 812 Superfast. While lightweight materials are used and the chassis has been updated too for handling that extra power and aero. This helps the Competizione Coupe to have an extremely lightweight 1,487Kg dry that gives it an extreme power-to-weight ratio. As a result of this, the 812 Competizione Coupe can do a 0-100kph in 2.85secs and 0-200kph is achieved in 7.5 secs while the top speed is 340Kph and is similar to the Ferrari 812 Superfast however the Competizione has a better acceleration time. While the Competizione A Convertible has some extra weight for all the roof parts, Ferrari has not revealed its performance figures but we expect it to be more or less the same with some milliseconds differences. Other performance updates include new technologies like the Ferrari’s side-slip control and independent rear-wheel steering that will offer more control to the driver. Talking about rubber, the 812 Competizione 20-inch wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires measuring which are super sticky. There is also an option for Carbon-fiber wheels which helps in further reducing 3.6kgs over the forged wheels.

Ferrari 812 Competizione and Competizione A Pricing and Availbility

As of now, Ferrari has only announced the pricing of both the cars for the Italian Market and both the supercars carries a hefty price tag of €500,000 for the coupe and €578,000 for the convertible and interestingly each of the 999 units of the coupe and 599 unit of the convertible is sold out already.

Unlike previous limited edition Ferraris like the 599 GTO and F12 TDF which never made it to India, few units of the 812 Competizione and Competizione A are allocated for India as some existing Ferrari customers here have shown some interests as per some sources. While the Deliveries of the Competizione Coupe will be started in 2022 and the Competizione A will be done by 2023.
