BMW 2 Series 220i Sport launched in India which is now the entry-level 2 Series Sedan
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe now has an entry-level 220i Sport trim which is launched at a price of Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the 220i Sport about Rs 3 lakh less than the fully-loaded 220i M Sport however it misses out on some of the equipment and features.
- The 220i Sport is BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe entry-level trim
- BMW 2 Series 220i Sport gets the same 2.0L 190HP turbo-petrol engine like the 220i M Sport
- The digital instrument cluster and features like gesture control and some more are absent
- Gets smaller more practical 17-inch alloy wheels
- Entry-level 220i Sport is about Rs 3 lakh less than the higher-spec 220i M Sport and almost Rs 2.5 lakh less than the 220d Sportline trim
BMW 2 Series 220i Sport Changes
Starting with the exterior, the first visual difference on the 220i Sport is getting more subtle design and the sporty design elements are absent which are present on the 220i M Sport variant and also now it runs on smaller more practical 17-inch alloy wheels when compared to 18-inch wheels on the M Sport trim
The interior also gets changes and the most notable change is the absence of the 10.25″ digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen which is replaced by an 8.8″ unit but it retains the voice assistant feature. Unlike the higher-spec 220i M Sport, the 220i Sport gets conventional analogue dials in place of a digital instrument cluster display. The smaller touchscreen infotainment display also misses many functions which are present on the larger 10.25″ unit, like the 3D map function. But interestingly the entry-level diesel 220d Sportline variant comes with twin 10.25″ displays. The entry-level BMW 220i Sport also gets a trim insert in the dashboard and a different styled steering wheel from the M Sport variant.
The BMW 220i Sport Other elements like LED fog lamps, a wireless phone charger, 205W Hi-Fi audio system and gesture control are absent on the BMW 220i Sport which are available on the higher-spec 220i M Sport, but it gets features like a panoramic sunroof, automatic dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and taillights, ambient lighting function, cruise control, paddle shifters, electronically adjustable front seats and safety features like rearview parking camera six airbags, ABS, ESC and traction control.
The BMW 220i Sport is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine making 190HP and paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox which is the same powertrain that comes with the higher-spec BMW 220i M Sport which was launched this year. BMW also claims the petrol version of the 4-door coupe can do a 0-100 KPH sprint in 7.1 secs. So even though it is an entry-level BMW there is no compromise on the performance.
BMW 2 Series rivals
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe rivals in India are Mercedes-Benz A-class Limousine which is set to launch tomorrow and the new Audi A3 which is expected to launch in India later this year.
