Engines and transmissions:
The India spec new Hyundai i20 in terms of engines gets three options- 1.2 litres naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.0 Turbocharged Petrol and 1.5 Litre diesel engine.
If we speak about the engine specifications than the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol makes 83HP and 115Nm of torque and will come with gearbox options of both 5-speed manual transmission and CVT automatic (with CVT the engine makes 5HP more and rated at 88HP).
There is also the new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Venue makes 120hp and 172Nm of torque in the new i20. This peppy motor comes with three gearbox options in total- the manual, 7-speed DCT and the iMT or Intelligent Manual Transmission.
Finally, the 1.5 Litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine makes a healthy 100 HP and 240 NM of torque, but for now Hyundai is offering the diesel engine with only a 6-speed manual gearbox across all variants of the newly launched i20.
If you’re wondering what kind of mileage the new i20 will offer than Hyundai says that the ARAI claimed mileage of i20 with 1.2-litre petrol engine is 20.35kpl with the manual gearbox and 19.65kpl with the CVT automatic gearbox, and the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol will return 20kpl with the iMT gearbox and 20.25kpl with the DCT gearbox and with manual gearbox it will return 20kmpl. Lastly, the 1.5-litre diesel manual will return an impressive 25.2kmpl. But to know the real-life mileage it can only be known after a test drive.
New Hyundai i20 design
When we come to the design aspect of the all-new Hyundai i20 undoubtedly it looks much sportier and sharper than the current Elite i20. Hyundai has applied all its design quirks and used “Sensuous Sportiness” design language on the new i20. As a result, its is bigger then the previous generation i20 both in terms of length and width. It looks similar like the international spec i20 and gets new and wider grille design, new headlight unit with DRL, new taillights with Z-shaped LED inserts and a chrome bar neatly connecting both the taillights at the boot lid.
Hyundai has also offered the new i20 in six colour options – Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey, Fiery Red, Starry Night and Metallic Copper. The new i20 also comes with two dual-tone paint scheme options for more added sportiness, namely- Polar White with Black coloured Roof and Fiery Red with Black Roof.
New Hyundai i20 features
Hyundai has not left any bit and packed the new i20 with lots of premium features. The top-spec trim level Asta (O) gets an impressive 10.25″ touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and also gets Hyundai’s ‘BlueLink’ connected car feature. This trim also gets a digital instrument cluster like the Verna, also equipped with 7 speaker Bose sound system, a sunroof, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting and air purifier and other creature comforts.
