The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift has been revealed today that will soon be sold in India. With the facelift the new Tiguan SUV has got design and equipment updates both for exterior and interior along with a new 2.0L TSI petrol engine. It will have a 5-seat layout unlike it larger sibling the VW Tiguan Allspace. Keep reading to know more.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Exterior design

 

On the exterior the Tiguan gets VW’s classic design language with straight lines across the body, a boxy shape and a very handsome looking bold front fascia design and it resembles to the previous model sold before BS6 emission norms come to play. But not everything is carried forward from the older, the new Tiguan gets a newly designed headlight which is sharper and slimmer toward the end which also gets LED Matrix technology. Then comes the newly design front grille and the front bumper which features triangular-shaped fog light clusters and air intakes, which helps to make it look different from the 7-seater sibling, the Tiguan Allspace. While it has an almost identical rear design like the larger Tiguan Allspace it when only viewed from sides the smaller overhangs and samller 18″ wheels give the new Tiguan a different look.

 

Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift Interior Design and features

 

The new Tiguan has a similar interior layout as the VW Tiguan Allspace, but there are some changes which came as an update. The Tiguan facelift now gets a touchscreen for the HVAC system instead of coventional knobs and buttons. Other interior features on the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift includes a panoramic sunroof, leather seats and upholstery, ambient lights, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, connected car tech, automatic three-zone climate control, an eight-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat to name a few. Safety features includes are six airbags, ABS, ESP, hill start and descent assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat mounts and Driver Alert System as standard. Also the Tiguan features only 5-seater configuration unlike it larger Tiguan Allspace with 7-seats.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Powertrain

 

Under the hood as confirmed by VW India earlier, the Tiguan facelift gets the 2.0L TSI engine which is the same engine that powers the VW Tiguan Allsapce. Its a four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that is tuned to make 190HP and 320NM of torque in the Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Superb. The engine is paired to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox as standard, along with VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

 

Price and rivals

 

The Tiguan once launched will rival up against other petrol-powered SUVs in the segment like the Hyundai Tucson (Rs 22.25-23.91 lakh*) and Jeep Compass (Rs 16.99-25.29 lakh), both of these SUVs are also offered with diesel engine. While we expect the VW Tiguan Facelift to be priced in the Bracket of Rs26 to Rs29 Lakh ex-showroom it will be expensive than it rivals.
