The 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift is revealed for the global market and it gets fresh styling with more technology and equipment on offer all influenced by the larger Golf. However, powered by the same VWs 204HP 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine.

2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI Facelift details

 

The GTI nameplate is always related to much faster and sportier versions of VW cars and in here we are talking about the all-new Polo GTI facelift based on the new 6th-gen Polo that was unveiled a few months back. Just like the regular Polo the VW Polo GTI Facelift is a front-wheel-drive car that is powered by Volkswagen’s 2.0L, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 204HP and 320NM of torque which comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. No manual gearbox is on offer yet. The turbocharged engine with the DCT gearbox helps the GTI to go from  0-100kph in claimed 6.5sec.

 

When it comes to styling the new Polo GTI get similar just the regular Polo, there are the new ‘IQ Light’ LED matrix headlights as standard that comes with new LED DRLs that goes along the front width of the car. VW says the new LED DRL bar creates a style connection to the new electric ID models and new generation models like the Golf, Arteon and Tiguan.

 

There are newly designed bumpers both at front and rear, the front bumper gets larger air intakes with a larger honeycomb type mesh grille with GTI badge, front splitter element and hexagonal quad-LED foglights. At the rear, the boot lid gets a red GTI badge just under the VW logo and there are is a twin-tip exhaust. There are now newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels as standard and it is inspired by the one on the Golf. There is also an option for larger 18-inch alloy wheels. The Polo GTI also comes with dynamic turn signals for the first time.

 

The interior gets the option of VW’s latest Discover Pro and Discover Media systems and the car also gets Volkswagen’s new ‘digital cockpit’ dashboard layout with a dual-tone scheme that was seen on the new Golf and ID 3 electric car. Other interior features include a panoramic sunroof, voice control feature, wireless phone charging, Beats sound system to name a few. There is also a level 2 autonomous driving feature just like the one on the regular Polo, called the Travel Assist. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist and rear traffic alert that enables semi-automated driving up to a speed of 210kph. Some more feature that comes with this are Autonomous emergency braking and automatic post-collision parking.

 

There are also driving modes on offer – Eco, Normal and Sport – the Sports mode enhances the exhaust note of the car. Moreover, the Polo GTI gets bespoke performance-oriented chassis, gets a 15mm ride height compared with the standard Polo. There are more sporty elements like a large stabiliser on the front axle, rigid coupling rods at the front and stiffer axle-mounts at the rear that aids a much sporty riding.

The 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI is based on the 6th-Gen Polo which never made to India and Volkswagen continues to sell the previous-gen Polo here. As with Polo GTI, Volkswagen sold the previous-gen GTI as a fully-imported unit in limited numbers. There is no news of VW bringing in the new Polo GTI. While Volkswagen is all set to launch new Taigun SUV in India based on the India-specific MQB AO IN platform under Volkswagen India 2.0 program.
