The 2021 BMW 5 Series Sedan is launched in India today and offered in three variants, prices start at Rs 62.90 Lakh for the M30i M Sport petrol and go up to Rs 71.90 Lakh for the 530d M Sport Diesel ex-showroom, India. 2021 BMW 5 Series Sedan Exterior Styling

 

With the facelift, 2021 5 Series Sedan gets a reworked front fascia that includes a newly designed single framed front grille, which is wider than before and now positioned much lower in the new front bumper. While the larger grille goes well with the sleek new headlights which get BMW’s Laserlight technology in the higher M Sport variants. The headlights get new L shaped LED DRLs and quad-LED setup as standard.

 

Coming to the rear of the car, there are redesigned LED taillights which are similar to the ones seen on the BMW 3 Series, the rear bumper is also a new unit. All the 5 Series models now get trapezoidal tailpipes as standard and 18-inch alloy wheels are standard across all variants and of course, there is an option for larger wheels. Some more exterior changes include two new paint shades- Phytinoc Blue and Grey Amber.

 

In terms of Dimension, the 2021 5 Series Sedan is 27mm longer than the outgoing model however, the width, height and wheelbase remain unchanged.

 

2021 BMW 5 Series Interior and equipment details

 

With the facelift, the BMW 5 Series is now offered with the latest, seventh-gen BMW iDrive infotainment system that now comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard that replaces the previous model’s 10.25-inch touchscreen. There is wireless Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay on offer Then there is another 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on offer. The dashboard has been tweaked and now the climate controls are placed lower with a new display, the interior materials are new and the centre console now gets a black gloss treatment. The petrol variants now get synthetic leather upholstery as an option while the diesel variants are offered with more premium ‘Dakota’ leather and ‘Nappa’ leather options for the upholstery.

 

In terms of features now the entry-level models are offered with more equipment as standard than the previous model, includes adaptive suspension and remote control parking. BMW has also added reversing parking assistant function, which allows the 5 Series to automatically reverse for up to 50 metres on its own, it will come in handy for some users to get their car out of tight parking spaces.

 

The equipment list offered on top-spec 5 Series M Sport variants are matrix LED headlights with Laserlight technology, ambient lighting, auto four-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, sunroof, a head-up display, premium Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, Adaptive cruise control and wireless phone charging feature to name a few.

 

The M Sport models are also offered with an optional M Sport package which offers a really nice multifunction M leather steering wheel, illuminated M door sills, then on the exterior, it offers gloss black front grille, M badges on the side fenders, M Sport dark blue brake callipers, an M aero package and more gloss black detailing around the windows and other bits.

 

In terms of safety, the new 2021 BMW 5 Series Sedan is offered with features six airbags, ABS with brake assist, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, traction control and child ISOFIX seat mounts. 

 

Powertrain Details

 

The new 5-series is offered in three variants 530i M Sport Petrol, 520d Luxury Line diesel and 520d M Sport Diese, which means there are three engines options – single petrol and two diesel engines. The entry-level 530i M Sport is powered by the 2.0L, four-cylinder, turbocharged unit that makes 252Hp and 350Nm of torque. While the 520d Luxury Line gets the smaller 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel unit that makes 190HP and 400Nm of torque, the 530d M Sport gets the 3.0L, in-line six unit that makes 265HP and whooping 620Nm of torque. All the variants are offered with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with paddle shifters as standard that drive the rear wheels.

 

2021 BMW 5 Series facelift Rivals

 

As before, in terms of Rivals, the BMW 5 Series stacks up against Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, Volvo S90 and Jaguar XF sedans in India which also offers great features in a similar price bracket.
