Bentley has unveiled their new top-spec performance-focused version of its Continental GT Coupe – the Bentley Continental GT Speed. No Bentley is ever made slow, but Bentley keeps the Speed tag for its high-performance models and as such, the British Performance Luxury carmaker has described it as the most dynamic production road car in its 110 years of history. Along with a powertrain upgrade, the GT Speed also gets major chassis upgrades. Keep reading to know more.

  • Powered by a twin-turbo W12 engine making 650HP and 900NM of torque

  • Can go from 0-100kph in 3.5sec and can reach a top speed of 335kph

  • Gets tweaked elements both for the interior and exterior

  • Gets rear-wheel steering and features an electronically limited-slip differential at the rear axle which is the first in Bentley

2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed Styling

To make it look more performance-oriented, the GT Speed gets unique tweaks to make it stand apart from the standard Continental GT. The exterior now gets a dark front grille, unique side skirts, and very subtle use of chrome bits. Like the standard continental GT, there are beautiful round-shaped crystal headlights and led taillights. Then there are the uniquely designed large 22-inch wheels, there is also an option for customers to opt for special jewel-encrusted fuel filler and oil filler caps. There is also Speed badging on the body.

Coming to the interior which has a largely identical layout like that of the standard GT but it gets more luxurious elements like generous use of leather and Alcantara and speeds embroidered headrests on the seats. Like the exterior, there is also Speed Badging on the dashboard. Every other technology and equipment on the interior is carried over from the standard GT.

2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed Powertrain

The 2021 Continental GT Speed Coupe is powered by the long-running Bentley’s 6.0L twin-turbo W12 engine which produces 650HP and 900NM of massive torque, but unlike its name, it is not that faster than the standard Bentley Continental GT on which it is based on. The power figure is only 24HP more than the standard Continental GT but the torque output is similar on both cars. The engine is mated to an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox which sends power to all the wheels. With the all-wheel-drive system, the Continental GT Speed can go from 0-100kph in just 3.5sec which is one-tenth quicker than the standard GT W12. The suspension and steering have been reworked. It also gets an all-new Electronic All-Wheel Steering function that improves agility by moving the front and rear wheels in opposite directions at lower speeds, while all the four wheels turn in same direction at higher speeds to provide greater stability. There also comes the Bentley Dynamic Ride feature which is a 48V system that reduces the body roll and an electronic limited-slip differential at the rear which is the first in a Bentley, that makes it the most agile Continental GT Speed to date. Courtesy of all the technology, the top speed goes up to 335kph which is 1.6Kph faster than the standard car. However, this makes the not-so-light Continental GT Speed as quick as rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracán out on the straight line.

And like any other supercar, it gets various drive modes but the mode that you need to know most is the Sport mode, when engaged the W12 engine is kept in the ‘power band’ by making upshift time longer and, and downshift earlier –thus keeping the revs towards the top of the range.

2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed other technology

The 2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed now gets massive carbon-ceramic disc brakes and 10-piston front brake calipers as standard. The electronic differential installed at the rear improves the “lateral capacity”, “longitudinal stability” and “on-throttle adjustability” and improves traction when required.

The new Continental GT Speed as claimed by Bentley now provides a more driver-focused experience which can only be seen on Bentley’s racing car previously. Out on the track, Bentley says that drivers can “choose to balance throttle and steering to deliver effortless, progressive yaw angles”.

Bentley for India

The new Bentley Continental GT Speed will go on sale in the global market later this year but it’s not officially announced if Bentley will launch the Continental GT Speed in India, however, the British carmaker recently launched the facelifted Bentley Bentayga SUV in India, with starting price of Rs 4.10 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). Besides the luxury SUV, Bentley offers the standard Continental GT coupe and the luxury Flying Spur sedan in India.

However, for Global Market Bentley has not yet released pricing information, but expect it to be priced over the standard GT model with a V8 engine, which starts at $202,500, and the W12 variant costs $218,900.
