Bentley has unveiled its all-new Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible and its been less than a month that they have revealed the coupe version of the same in their luxury sports tourer line-up. Most of the equipment and mechanicals are similar to the coupe and the only difference is the convertible roof-top. Just like the Coupe variant, it is the most dynamic convertible in the brand’s history.
- 2021 Bentley Continental Speed GT Convertible is powered by the same 659hp W12 engine as the coupé
- The Roof can be unfolded or folded in 19sec at speed up to 50kph
- There is the option for seven roof colours, eight roof liners and 26 upholstery theme
- Gets 22-inch forged wheels and optional carbon-ceramic brakes
2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible design features
The Continental GT Speed convertible has everything similar to the Coupe that was revealed a few days back except the major difference is the convertible roof. But when we talk about the exterior Bentley has given a unique touch up to the Speed-badged models and just like the Coupe, the Convertible gets 22-inch forged alloy wheels with an option for three different colours. There is also an option to choose from 8 different roof liner addition to the performance-oriented upgrades, Bentley has made a number of exterior and interior design changes unique to Speed-badged models. The forged 22-inch wheels can be specified in one of three colours, and customers can choose from 7 different roof colour, 8 different roof liners inside. Bentley also offers 15 different options for the main hide used inside. Everything else from the dashboard and cabin layout to the upholstery is carried from the Speed Coupe. Since it’s a Bentley more customisation options are available for customers as per their choice.
Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible roof features
Since it the same car just like the Coupe, the most important topic to talk about is the roof. The roof is available in a choice of 7 colours, and the whole roof including the tweed can be retracted and folded in 19sec even when moving at speeds of 50kph. Bentley said that it has worked extensively on the roof to keep the cabin quiet when it’s fully up and the noise level are as low as the previous-gen Continental GT Coupe. This makes the Continental GT Speed Convertible of the most dynamic convertible grand tourer.
Like the Coupe, the Speed Convertible under the hood is powered by Bentley’s 6.0L W12 engine which is tuned to make 659Hp and 900NM of torque. Power goes to all the wheels via an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Despite being heavier than the Coupe, it two-tenths of a second slower than the coupé and the 0-100kph takes 3.7sec, but the top speed is identical to 335kph.
2021 Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible performance
From the past, every Bentley ever made packs performance and luxury but Bentley offers much more to its cars with the Speed-badge. The Continental GT Speed Convertible is based on the Speed Coupe and just like that it carries over all the performance features which include an electronic all-wheel-drive system, all-wheel steering, an electronic rear limited-slip diff, 48V active anti-roll, dynamic chassis and active air suspension. There are also other performance parts like optional carbon-ceramic discs. Then there come the drive modes which changes engine response, differentials and many factors. The Sports mode makes most of the power to go to the rear making it rear-biased and more engaging to drive. This also makes the 8-speed DCT gearbox twice as fast as the standard model.
Bentley says the new 2021 Speed Convertible is the most driver-focused and dynamic Continental GT Convertible oy there that will offer all-season open-top grand touring with superior performance and luxury. With handcrafted details on both interior and exterior, it’s the most elegant and luxurious grand tourer to offer open roof motoring.
