Powertrain

The New Duster is equipped with an all new 1.3 liter Turbo-Petrol engine, produces 156 HP and 250Nm of torque. The Turbo-Petrol variant will be offered with two gearbox options: 6-speed manual and 7-step CVT Transmission.

The 106Hp naturally aspirated petrol engine will also be on offer and will have the option of 6-speed manual transmission only.

With the BS6 emission norms coming to play earlier this year Renault had to pull the plug on the Duster’s popular 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. With the switch to petrol-only powertrain, the capable all-wheel drive (AWD) version of the SUV was also dropped from the line-up.

Exterior and Interior

The Duster Turbo-Petrol is almost identical in looks to the standard Duster both on the exterior and interiors. Subtle changes like red accents in the exterior and a Turbo badging makes it different from the regular one. However, the top-spec RxZ variant gets more creature comfort like a start-stop system, auto climate control and remote pre-cooling, hill-start assist, 8.0-inch touchscreen, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Renault Duster and Rivals price difference

Renault has priced turbo-petrol variant at almost Rs 2 lakh more over the naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre variant Duster. The CVT variants are further Rs 1.6 lakh higher than the manual ones.

But the important fact is that, Duster is the most affordable turbo-petrol midsize SUV in India right now compared to its rivals. The Nissan Kicks turbo, which shares the mechanical bits with Renault, has a Rs 1.36 lakh higher starting price (at Rs 11.85 lakh) and the turbo option is not available at the entry-level trim option.

While other popular compact SUV like Kia Seltos 1.4-litre turbo-GDI, is priced at Rs 15.54 lakh, starts almost Rs 5 lakh higher than the Duster turbo-petrol, while the Hyundai Creta turbo is priced much higher at Rs 16.16 lakh since it comes only with a DCT automatic transmission. However, both the Korean brothers are equipped with more features both on the interior and exterior than their European rivals.
