Volvo P1800 Coupé From the 1960s gets a Restomod by Cyan Racing of Geely Group Motorsport

Cyan Racing of Geely Group Motorsport has unveiled the Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod with modern features as a homage to Volvo’s 1960s Iconic sports coupé.

  • Powered by race-spec 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 420 HP power and 455 Nm torque.

  • Gets lightweight Carbon fiber body panels, a roll cage and stiff suspensions and many modern techs for added performance.

  • The overall design looks similar to the original P1800 but it’s a fairly modern car.

The Original Volvo P1800 was a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupé that was made between 1961 and 1973. Now, Cyan Racing, the official racing department of the Geely Group Motorsport has used the original Volvo P1800 and reimagined how the Cyan Racing car would be back in the days and the example is the beautiful Restomod that is called the Volvo P1800 Cyan, with that gone are modern-day techs like Stability Control, ABS and even Brake Boost. Its all about sheer driving pleasure of a race car which is undoubtedly road legal.

If you don’t know much about Cyan Racing then here is some brief info about them. which is located in, perhaps you’ve heard of Originally Known as Polestar, which most probably you have heard of was the tuner that made Volvo cars more performance-oriented and even racing champions of World Touring Car Championship, which Volvo later bought the name for its Electric and Hybrid Performance sister brand now known as, yes you got it right “Polestar”.

Later renamed “Cyan Racing” (of course for the colour) is still independent and located in Mölndal, Sweden. Its the official motorsport partner and Racing Team, for Geely Group Motorsport (That’s the owner of Volvo). Cyan Racing is the team that won the 2017 World Touring Car Championship with a Volvo S60 Race Car and the past two World Touring Car Cups.

Now coming to the Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod, its a totally different car than the original one. Its re-engineered and made in a way that it offers great performance, dynamics and drivability

The Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod is now far from the original P1800 in terms of specs. It is now a two-seater, front-engine coupé but almost all the body panels are largely carbon fibre, the floor is now made of High-strength steel also steel is used in other places like engine bay. All materials are bonded neatly together to provide body stiffness that the original P1800 never had. There is also a Titanium roll cage inside for that added stiffness. It also gets a wider track than before for much stability and control around the corners.

In terms of performance, the original has been swapped for Volvo’s newest 2.0-liter Turbo Petrol engine, which is used in their S60 race car and also fitted to new Volvo production cars with either a turbo or supercharger. Cyan Racing had a few options for the power unit, like fitting with an electric drivetrain or Volvo’s Red Block and five-cylinder turbo motors, but chose to go for the latest engine as they are familiar with it from the racing efforts. So now the Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod engine can rev up to 7,700 RPM redline and produce over 420 HP and healthy 455 Nm of torque.

The engine is mated to a 5-speed dog type manual transmission from Holinger in Australia and power goes to only rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. The Suspension is taken care by double-wishbone type all around with adjustable dampers. Sits on forged Aluminium 18 inch wheels with centre lock wheels. The rims are fitted with top-spec Pirelli P Zero tyres. To stop the car there are also good quality steel discs all around with 4 piston calipers, but no electronic aid like ABS and stability control, but there is a power-assisted steering wheel. Getting all these equipments the P1800 Cyan still weighs just 990kg which much lighter than the original car. Also with a strong engine and precise gearbox having a lightweight, it can do a sprint of 0-100 kph in sub 5.0 seconds as claimed by Cyan itself.

On the inside of the Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod it is equipped with Titanium roll cage as mentioned earlier but covered with beautiful leather, gone are the four seats and now only gets 2 front racing seats, racing harness, a beautiful Momo Prototipo Steering Wheel, bespoke digital instruments which more looks like the original ones. Also, the Gear level and dashboard-mounted inside rearview mirror are carried over from the original P1800.

As of now, the car will be offered in Cyan blue and Yellow strip which are the official colour of Cyan Racing and also resembles the Swedes flag. It looks gorgeous on the car as a whole.

The Volvo P1800 Cyan Restomod will be sold by Cyan as their own offering, and production will be extremely limited to few units for the whole world. They are offering it with a price tag starting at $500,000 or £379,000.
