  • To sit above the regular Ford Focus which will also be coming to India in limited numbers.

  • Powered by a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged Ecoboost engine that makes 280 PS and 420 NM of torque.

  • It will be similar to the international spec Ford Focus ST as it will be a completely CBU unit.

  • Top of the line Hot Hatchback from Ford.

Its official that Ford is planning to bring 3 international spec cars to India by next year in limited numbers. The cars are the high-performance pickup truck Ranger Raptor, the Ford Focus hatchback, and the Ford Focus ST which is the hot hatchback version of the Focus. This is happening due to new import rules that allow manufacturers to import 2,500 max units of a foreign-spec car in one year by the CBU route, without having the need to homologate them. With that said, all three Ford cars coming to India will have more or less the same specs and safety features like the international models on sell and here I have pointed out some of the key features of the upcoming Ford Focus ST hot hatchback coming to India, read on to know more.

How different it is from regular Focus?

When compared with the regular Ford Focus hatchback, the performance-oriented ST version gets a wide range of equipment that is unique to the car to set it apart in terms of both interior and exterior and also mechanically. The equipment list starts with lightweight 19-inch wheels, ST front and rear bumpers, specialised ST grille, full factory body kit, large rear spoiler, ST badges all around, Electronic Limited Slip Differential and sports suspension from Fox.

The interior also gets sporty elements like Recaro Seats and ST specific steering wheel, ST floormats and Race style Pedals to set it different from the regular Focus. About the Engine, I will mention that in the next point.

What’s under the hood and how is the performance?

The Internationally sold Ford Focus Hatchback gets different types of engines both in petrol and diesel namely EcoBoost Petrol and EcoBlue Diesel that meets the latest stringent Euro 6 Emission Norms. In India, the models are expected to be offered with 1.0L, 3-cylinder EcoBoost petrol, and 2.0L direct-injection turbocharged petrol engines. While the 1.0litre is good enough for producing 125PS, the latter can make healthy 160PS which is actually a lot for an India Spec hatchback market.

But the main highlight here is the Ford Focus ST model. In terms of engine, The Ford Focus ST is offered with a 2.3 Litre 4 cylinder Turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine and a 2.0 Litre EcoBlue Diesel engine. But for India, only the 2.3 Litre unit is expected to be offered. The EcoBoost engine is capable of producing 280 PS of power and 420 NM of torque. All the power is usually sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission with an Electronic slip differential on offer. In India, it is expected that only the automatic version will be on offer.

The Ford Focus ST on papers and as claimed by Ford itself can do a sprint of 0 to 100 KPH in 5.7 seconds with the manual transmission and takes 6 seconds with the auto transmission. The top speed is claimed to be 249 KMPH.  Also gets Wet, Normal, Sport and Track modes on offer which amplifies the engine performance and exhaust note accordingly.

To stop the car Ford has also equipped the hot hatch with bigger and powerful brakes with disc brakes all around. It gets 330mm front discs with dual-piston calipers and 302mm rear disc brakes. These are also optimised fade-resistant brakes.

Once launched the Ford Focus ST will be the fastest and the most powerful hot hatchback in India.

Features on offer.

With the Ford Focus RS out of the picture the Focus ST is the top-of-the-line hot hatchback on offer and Ford has fitted it with every single piece of equipment that can be given at this price point. The international model gets features like automatic full LED headlights with adaptive feature, Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, a heads-up display, adaptive radar-based cruise control, electrically operated and heated ORVM, rain-sensing wipers, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone air conditioning, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, Park Assist and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Ford’s latest SYNC 3 connect system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard.

Safety

In terms of safety Ford has loaded up the Focus ST. The Euro-spec car gets ABS with Electronic Brake Boost, Enhanced Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, airbags for both driver and co-driver along with front side-impact airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags. It also got 5-star safety ratings since its launch in 2018.

Price of Ford Focus ST

With all the equipment and features on offer the Ford Focus will not be a cheaper car to make it your next garage goal. Also the hatch will be a CBU unit so the Ford Focus ST is expected to have a big price tag when launch and can be expected that Ford will price it in the range of Rs 45 lakh to 50 lakh Ex-showroom. When launched it will be the most expensive Hot Hatch available in India and can go up against Mercedes A45 AMG and Mini Copper since these are the only performance hatch that are currently available on sale in India.

Internationally The Focus ST go up against VW Golf, Honda Civic Type R, Renault Megan RS, Toyota GR Yaris
