Hyundai Alcazar SUV which is based on the popular Creta mid-sized SUV was launched recently and the price starts at Rs 16.30 Lakh ex-showroom, India. It is available in three trim levels and comes with both petrol and diesel engine options along with options for both manual and automatic transmission. The Alcazar was introduced to compete in the 3-row segment SUVs and as such it will rival up against cars like MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and the current Mahindra XUV 500. Hyundai Alcazar vs Rivals dimension comparison
When it comes to dimensions, all the SUVs in this segment measures around 4.5 meters in length. While the MG Hector Plus measuring at 4,720mm in length is the longest, the Hyundai Alcazar measuring at 4,500mm is the shortest in the lot. The Tata Safari is the widest measuring at 1,894mm and tallest with a height of 1,7886mm in this comparison beating the Mahindra XUV500 in terms of both width and height which measures 1,890mm wide and 1,785mm tall. However, the new Alcazar has the largest wheelbase measuring at 2,760mm which is 10mm larger than its close competitor in this aspect the MG Hector Plus. All four SUVs in their top-spec trims comes with 18-inch alloy wheels.
Hyundai Alcazar vs Rivals Petrol Engine Comparison
In this comparison, only the Hyundai Alcazar and Hector Plus are the SUVs that come with an option of Petrol Engine. The unit on the Alcazar is the biggest and is 2.0L naturally aspirated while the Hector Plus gets a smaller 1.5L unit and gets turbocharging. Even without any forced induction, the Alcazar’s petrol unit is more powerful than the MG Hector’s units and makes159HP compared to 143HP, however, Hector’s engine is tuned to produce more torque and makes 250Nm in comparison to the Alcazar’s 191Nm torque.
While the Hyundai Alcazar Petrol only comes with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes and no other gizmos on offer, the MG Hector Plus gets a 48V mild-hybrid system but this only comes with the 6-speed manual gearbox option. While the MG Hector Plus petrol also gets the option of dual-clutch automatic and CVT automatic gearboxes. All four SUVs comes with only a front-wheel-drive option with petrol engines.

When comparing the diesel engines each one of the SUV is powered by turbocharged 4-cylinder units but the displacement is different. The Mahindra XUV500 diesel engine is the largest which is a 2.2L unit and makes the most amount of torque, 360Nm. While both Tata and MG units are Fiat-sourced 2.0L units and have similar power and torque figures, 170Hp and 350Nm of torque. It’s also the most powerful diesel engine in this lot.
The Hyundai Alcazar has the smallest diesel engine among the four and is also has the lowest output figures, produces power of 115HP and 250Nm of torque which are significantly lower when compared to its competitors. We would recommend going for Alcazar Petrol if you want more engaging driving.
Coming to the transmissions on offer, all the SUVs gets the option of a 6-speed manual with their diesel engines. While a 6-speed torque converter automatic is also available as an option except for the MG Hector Plus which gets a CVT transmission. Like that of the petrol-powered siblings, all the SUVs comes with a front-wheel-drive option only while the Mahindra XUV500 used to come with an all-wheel-drive option earlier, but with the transition to BS6, that option was discontinued.
Price Comparison
The Hyundai Alcazar SUV is priced between Rs 16.30 – 19.85 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs 16.53 – 20.00 lakh for the diesel. When compared to its rivals its price seems reasonable, however, when it comes to the entry-level Hyundai Alcazar and Hector Plus petrol there is a huge difference by almost Rs 2.67 lakh but, at the top-end, this difference goes way down to Rs 67,000. When it comes to diesel, the entry-level Alcazar again has the highest starting price, however, it’s not the most expensive diesel SUV in top-spec in this lot. The top-spec Alcazar diesel is Rs 1.81 lakh cheaper than the top-spec Tata Safari and its Rs 4,000 and Rs 39,000 more expensive when compared to the top-spec variants of Hector Plus and XUV500 respectively. But the Alcazar packs some first-in-class features like a panoramic sunroof, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging in the second-row, 64 colour ambient lighting and leatherette upholstery also Hyundai is known for its great aftersales network throughout the country. But there is a thing to be noted that the Alcazar prices are introductory for the time being and will be hiked in near future.
So, this is how the new Hyundai Alcazar stands up against its rivals on paper. But, the real-life difference can only be known when we are out on the roads. However, the competition will get much tougher once Mahindra will bring the new XUV700 SUV later this year.
