Overview

Donkervoort Automobielen BV is an automaker of a hand-built super-lightweight sports car based in Lelystad, Netherlands. The brand was founded by Joop Donkervoort in 1978. Since then Donkervoort has been constantly giving the world high-performance super lightweight hand-built sports car.

Donkervoort’s motto – “No Compromise” – means driving without any electronic aids such as ABS, ESP or power steering and keeping this in their mind Donkervoort gave the world many high-performance supercars with pure driving experience.

Donkervoort celebrated its founder’s 70th birthday by gifting him the D8 GTO-JD70 which the most powerful car built by the brand.

The Donkervoort D8 GTO JD70- Design and Chassis

This special edition D8 GTO JD70 is a better version of the D8 GTO RS with much lighter bodywork and chassis and a more powerful Audi 5 cylinder TSFI engine.

It follows the basic Donkervoort design theme that is a long nose and the driver sits just above the rear wheels.

The car is made using EX-CORE® carbon-fiber technology, which is a patented technology of the brand. This means 95% of the car is made up of carbon fiber that includes even the wheels, the driveshaft and the whole bodywork. Even the seats are also offered in carbon fiber.

The chassis is a tubular steel frame with added carbon fiber, to boost strength and rigidity, and aluminium to further reduce weight. Combining all these the car just weighs under 700kg i.e 680kgs to be precise.

D8 GTO JD70 Powertrain and Performance

D8 GTO JD70 Engine | All Rights Reserved at Donkervoort Automobielen BV

The D8 GTO JD70 is powered by a 415bhp Audi 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine with 520Nm of torque, making it the most powerful car of the brand. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.

Also fitted with Three-way adjustable Intrax suspensions at each corner and special Tarox brakes with six-piston callipers at the front. When that’s fitted to a car with a kerb weight of 680kgs the results are bonkers.

A 0-100kmph time of 2.7sec and 0-200kmph in 7.7secs. Donkervoort claims the JD70 can hit 2G while cornering, 1.02g during straight-line acceleration and 1.65G while braking and top speed is claimed to be 280kmph that too on standard semi-slick road tyres. Even with all these extreme numbers its road legal.

D8 GTO JD70 Aerodynamics and new tech.

The D8 GTO JD70 has more aerodynamic than any previous models. Featured are a more aerodynamic nose, a new limited-slip diff and a side-exit exhaust system with Euro 6 norms allowed for a bigger rear diffuser which helped to generate 80kg of downforce at the rear, and 50kg at the front.

The JD70 is also the first car from the brand that gets a traction control system and quick release electric power steering as an option. Also comes equipped with race ABS.

The Donkervoort D8 GTO JD70 is truly a bonkers donkers when all the specs are seen in paper and it also proves to be one out in the tarmac. Its super exclusive as only 70 units were ever made and priced at around £141,677 which is roughly around Rs1,39,10,253.06 INR. There’s also available a more expensive JD70 and called the bare naked carbon edition.
